Dissolution of the General Secretariat for Political Affairs

Today, Wednesday, May 6, 2026, news revealed that a decision has been issued to dissolve the General Secretariat for Political Affairs in Syria.

Sources within the Secretariat indicated that  the Secretariat of Political Affairs received an internal communication of the decision to dissolve it issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Establishment Decision

Al-Shaibani issued Decree No. (53) on March 27, 2025, to form the General Secretariat for Political Affairs as part of the administrative structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

According to the resolution, the tasks were to supervise the management of political activities and events within the country, and to participate in the formulation of policies and general plans related to political affairs, in addition to a clause related to the re-employment of the assets of the former Arab Socialist Baath Party  to serve national and political tasks.
