Dead and wounded in Israeli raids on Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, warnings toevacuate 12 towns

While the occupation continues its "scorched earth" policy through large-scale explosions in border villages and concentrated raids in depth, new waves of displacement have begun to draw a humanitarian tragedy over a geographical area that expands hour by hour, coinciding with an international political movement that is trying to curb the mass explosion amid daily violations of the fragile truce.

The "Zalaya" massacre and the targeting of local cadres

The town of Zlaya in Lebanon's western Bekaa witnessed a bloody Israeli aggression, where an Israeli raid targeted the house of the head of the municipal council, Ali Qassem Ahmed, killing him along with his wife and son.

This aggression comes in the context of the systematic targeting of local and service structures, as the airstrikes also targeted the paramedics of the "Islamic Health Authority" in the town of Derkiva, which resulted in injuries among the medical staff.

In this context, the Israeli occupation army carried out  a  huge bombing operation in the town of Khiam at dawn, in conjunction with intensive raids targeting Rashknaniyya, Safed Al-Batikh, Barashit, and Qalawiya, where the latter caused serious destruction in the Bourj Qalawiyeh public school, raising the number of casualties and destruction in educational and health facilities.

The "Warnings" Weapon: Emptying the South and the District of Sidon

The Israeli war machine moved to the stage of "organized displacement" by issuing urgent warnings to the residents of 12 towns in southern Lebanon and the western Bekaa Valley (among them: Kawthariyya al-Sayyad, al-Ghassaniyya, Haruf, and Haboush).

According to Lebanese media, these threats have triggered a massive displacement, especially from the villages of the Saida district, where residents have left their homes under the threat of immediate bombardment.

Aoun: The priority is to end the suffering of the people

In Beirut, on the occasion of the anniversary of the martyrs of May 6, President Joseph Aoun sent an emotional and political message, in which he stressed that Lebanon stands in honor of the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people, focusing on the price paid by journalists in the context of covering the war on Lebanon and reporting the truth.

Aoun stressed that the top priority is to preserve national unity and end the suffering of the people, considering that loyalty to the martyrs is to build a strong state capable of protecting its children.

Germany warns of Gaza again

German Foreign Minister Johann Fadiful warned against addressing the conflict in Lebanon with Hezbollah at the expense of civilians, stressing that turning Lebanon into a theater of war will not make Israel safer, warning that turning southern Lebanon into "Gaza again."

"Lebanon must not become a theater of war, and it is unacceptable for younger generations to grow up in the rubble of their parents' homes," he said, adding that this "will not make Israel safer."

Vadiful stressed the need for an agreement that protects civilians on both sides of the border, saying that "the first direct talks between Lebanon and Israel in decades are a source of hope."

US mediation: Sources revealed that US Ambassador Michel Issa is under pressure to hold a high-level meeting in Washington between the Lebanese president and the Israeli prime minister to try to formulate a lasting solution.

These developments come despite the announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon on April 17, which was supposed to be extended until mid-May, but the reality on the ground proves otherwise: Israel continues its daily violations and ground incursions, while Hezbollah responds with operations targeting soldiers' gatherings, leaving the Lebanese scene suspended between the hammer of military escalation that does not exclude a country or a school, and the anvil of international pressure that is trying to extract a political agreement from the rubble.
