Damascus and Aleppo airports receive more than 188,000 passengers during May

The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation announced that the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo received more than 188,000 passengers during the month of May.
The Authority said in a statement on Sunday that the total number of actual passengers reached 188,756 passengers, distributed between Damascus International Airport, which acquired the largest mass with 148,305 passengers through 1532 flights, and Aleppo International Airport, which in turn attracted 40,451 passengers who completed their movements through 412 flights.
According to the authority, travel traffic was distributed at Damascus International Airport, recording 83,357 incoming passengers, compared to 64,948 departures, while Aleppo International Airport's data via the "Telegram" platform showed a growth in departure traffic by 22,242 passengers compared to 18,209 arrivals.
The statistics showed that the dual operational movement of the two airports was efficiently managed by the carriers, with 13 regional and international airlines operating their flights through Damascus Airport regularly, while 7 airlines took Aleppo Airport as their main scheduled destination.
The rebound of transit over the skies
In a previous statement, the Authority also announced an increase in air transit traffic over Syrian airspace during the month of May 2026 by more than 378% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The authority indicated that the number of planes that crossed Syrian airspace reached 11,801, compared to only 2,468 planes registered during the same time period last year.
This jump coincides with the announcement by the Authority that 12 regional and international airlines will resume their direct flights through Damascus and Aleppo airports.
In parallel with this recovery, Syrian Air launched integrated electronic booking and payment services through its official application on smartphones.
The activation of the application coincided with the rapid expansion of the resumption of flights to new international destinations and the increase in the frequency of public air transport, responding to the modern efficiency and operational requirements that the Corporation seeks to localize in the structure of Syrian airports.
