Damascus airport resumes international flights. The first plane to Istanbul

Damascus International Airport recorded a new start of its operations on Thursday morning, as the first flights departed towards Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul.
The move follows an official decision to reopen Syrian airspace, signaling a trend towards strengthening regional connectivity and gradually returning to normal.
Official flight scheduling
The Director of Government Communication at the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Alaa Salal, confirmed in a statement to SANA that all airlines have been informed of the decision to open the skies and resume work at the airport.
Salal explained that the Authority is waiting for the operators to finalize the scheduling of their flights, noting that this decision came in coordination with regional and international authorities to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency of air traffic in accordance with international standards.
Fully reopening of air corridors
The head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar al-Hosari, announced on Wednesday a decision to reopen all air corridors that were previously closed. Al-Hosari confirmed that air traffic through Syrian airspace will resume fully, coinciding with the return of regular operations at Damascus International Airport, which will end the period of anticipation experienced by the air transport sector.
The resumption of work comes after a period of suspension imposed by security conditions, as a result of the war in the region in the past weeks, and the reciprocal strikes between Israel and the United States on the one hand, and Iran on the other hand, led to the temporary closure of airspace in several countries in the region as a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining the safety of air navigation and passengers from military risks.
