Britain hints at Russian role in developing Iran's military tactics

British Defense Secretary John Healy hinted at the possibility of a Russian role in developing some of the military tactics used by Iran in the ongoing confrontation, noting that Moscow may not be far from the military scene in the region.

Haley said his country believes that "Russian President Vladimir Putin's hand may be indirectly present" in some of Tehran's combat tactics, and perhaps even in part of its current military capabilities, referring to the military rapprochement between the two countries in recent years.

The British defense secretary revealed that military experts are currently working to analyze the wreckage of an Iranian drone that targeted the British base of Akrotiri in Cyprus in early March, with the aim of verifying the possible presence of Russian components or technical evidence indicating Moscow's involvement in the development of these systems.

Nick Perry, the head of joint operations at the British Army, said that the indications available so far suggest a close link between Iranian tactics and Russian military experience, explaining that Iran's use of drones is very similar to those developed by Russian forces.

Expansion of the air confrontation

An Iranian drone targeted the British base of Akrotiri in Cyprus, where one hit a hangar without any human casualties, while British fighter jets managed to shoot down two other drones.

British military commander Guy Foden also noted that British forces deployed in Erbil also contributed to the downing of two Iranian drones last Wednesday, reflecting the breadth of the aerial confrontation linked to regional tensions.

Potential economic repercussions

In another part of his remarks, Haley considered that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be among the biggest beneficiaries of the global increase in oil prices in light of the escalation of military tensions, as this has a direct impact on Russian energy revenues.

The remarks come at a time when Western warnings are growing about the expansion of the military confrontation in the region, amid fears of security and economic repercussions that could spill over into global energy markets.
