Beijing announces 'understanding' with Washington to promote global peace and stability

China announced that it had reached an understanding with the United States during US President Donald Trump's visit to the country, in order to promote peace and stability in the world.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday,  May 15, that the Chinese and US leaders exchanged views during the visit on major issues of interest to the two countries and the world, and reached common understandings on a number of files.

"The two heads of state agreed on a vision to build a constructive and stable strategic relationship between the United States and China over the next three years and beyond, promoting the stable, solid and sustainable development of U.S.-China relations, and bringing more peace, prosperity and progress to the world," she said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that the contacts between the leaders of the two countries have contributed to enhancing mutual understanding, deepening trust, advancing practical cooperation, and increasing benefits for the peoples of the two countries.

On Friday, Trump concluded a three-day visit to China, the first by a US president in eight and a half years, in which he was accompanied by a large delegation that includes representatives of political institutions and major US companies.

U.S.-China understandings to reduce tensions

U.S. and Chinese media reports said the  talks resulted  in understandings they described as "crucial" and opened the door to unprecedented cooperation on files that have been one of the most sensitive points of contention between Washington and Beijing.

The two sides  agreed to activate the military collision  prevention mechanism through hot and direct communication channels between the two militaries' commands, with the aim of avoiding any unintentional friction in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, the two most flammable areas, the two most flammable areas, the two reports added.

The two sides reached a preliminary understanding on diplomatic cooperation in the Middle East, including coordinating efforts to contain escalating conflicts and prevent the spillover of regional conflicts, according to reports.

The agreement included the development of a preliminary security framework to regulate the use of artificial intelligence in military systems, in a move aimed at reducing the risks associated with smart armament and controlling the proliferation of strategic weapons, and the understandings linked the de-escalation of military escalation in the Pacific to the provision of mutual facilitation in the files of trade, tariffs, and vital supply chains, in an attempt to restore balance between the two sides at the economic and security levels.

Beijing's understandings worry Taiwan, Japan

The U.S.-China understanding during the Beijing summit sparked a state of cautious anticipation in regional and international circles, especially Taiwan, which  expressed its "appreciation for the continued U.S. support" in the words of Cabinet  spokeswoman Michelle Lee, while  expressing the region's concern about the possibility that the Trump administration could use the island file as  a "negotiating" card in broader deals with China.

Japan was quick to request urgent coordination with Washington to ensure that no concessions are made that affect the balance of power in the Pacific, as the Japanese government  said that the  US-China rapprochement should not lead to a decline in the reliability of the US security umbrella, stressing the refusal to place it in the position of a "secondary card" within a larger economic and geopolitical conflict.

At the international level, major economic powers welcomed the US-China understanding on the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to global energy traffic, considering that this joint commitment mitigates the risks of supply chain disruption, while European capitals have approached the understandings with clear caution, fearing that Trump will proceed with "unilateral deals" with Beijing under the slogan "America First", which could marginalize traditional coordination with Western allies and redraw the map of economic and security alliances.
