Aston Villa end 44 years of disappointment and win Europa League

English club Aston Villa won the Europa League title after beating Germany's Freiburg by three goals in the final match on Wednesday evening.

Aston Villa returned to the European podium, reclaiming the glories of the past after their historic achievement in 1982 when they won the Champions League (formerly the European Club Cup).

Despite Freiburg's strong start, which threatened goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on more than one occasion, the English team had the final say.

In the 41st minute, Youri Tielemans opened the scoring with a superb shot, before Emiliano Buendia extended the lead with a second goal in stoppage time of the first half (45+3), ending the first half with Villa leading with two clean sheets.

In the second half, Aston Villa continued to control the course of the match, and Morgan Rogers was able to score the third goal in the 58th minute, confirming the complete superiority of the English team and the decisiveness of the continental title.

This is Unai Emery's fifth title in the Europa League competition, having previously won it three times with Sevilla in 2014, 2015 and 2016, in addition to being crowned with Villarreal in 2021, in addition to being runners-up with Arsenal in the 2019 edition.
