Arsenal win the Premier League for the first time in 22 years

Arsenal have officially won the Premier League title for the 14th time in their history, taking advantage of Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday in the 37th round of the competition.

City were content to pick up a point that raised their tally to 78 points, four points behind Arsenal, an irreplaceable difference with one round left to go, while Bournemouth's tally rose to 56 points in sixth place, to ensure participation in the European Championships next season.

Mikel Arteta's side ended a 22-year wait, with the London side's last crown coming in the 2003-2004 season, when they were coached by Frenchman Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal took their tally to 14 titles to become the third most successful club in the Premier League after Liverpool and Manchester United, with 20 titles each, with the team finishing runners-up in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

The title marks the culmination of a long plan for the north London club, since Arteta's arrival as manager in December 2019, as Arsenal were 10th in the Premier League and suffering from a decline in performance, but quickly achieved their first title by winning the FA Cup in 2020.

Returning to the match between Bournemouth and City hosted by the Vitality Stadium, the hosts were able to score the first goal in the 39th minute through Elie Junior Kruppi, after he shot a ball in a very wonderful way, which shook Donnarumma's net.

Erling Haaland's Norwegian goalkeeper scored the equalizer in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but it was also not enough for City, to give the title to the Gunners.

Guardiola congratulates Arsenal: "They deserved it"

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has congratulated his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta on winning the Premier League title, insisting the Gunners "deservedly deserved".

Guardiola told a press conference: "I congratulate Arsenal, Arteta, his coaching staff and the fans for winning the title, it is well deserved."

"During my career, this was one of the years where we fought more battles with uncontrollable things, but we were always there and we never gave up," he added.

"Since January we have been really good, we have suffered a lot of injuries and a lot of things that are out of our control, we have learned a lot this season, what we have to do to win, we have to get a lot of points, we have to have the advantage, otherwise there will be circumstances that we cannot control."

Pep Guardiola continued: "We fought very fierce battles, unfortunately, we didn't win against Bournemouth, we lacked the speed and conditions we needed, and now we are preparing for next season."
