Armed clashes between two families in Al-Maysar neighborhood in Aleppo cause injuries and cause widespread fires

On Friday, July 17, the Al-Maysar neighborhood in the city of Aleppo in northern Syria witnessed great security tension and violent armed clashes between two families following personal disputes between them. The clashes resulted in a number of injuries and extensive material damage to property, amid an intensive security alert by the Internal Security Forces, who imposed a cordon on the area.

This incident comes to shed light once again on the issue of the proliferation of indiscriminate weapons in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city, and the accompanying outbreak of frequent armed conflicts between families for personal or family reasons.

Gun clashes and property fires

The head of the media office at the Internal Security Directorate in Aleppo, Mohammed al-Saeed, reported that personal disputes between two families quickly developed into gun clashes, resulting in three people being injured to varying degrees. The intensity of the fire used caused panic and panic among the residents of the neighborhood.

The damage was not limited to human injuries, but the clashes included the burning of two cargo cars and the burning of warehouses dedicated to storing cork and plastic boxes in the neighborhood. Fire and civil defence teams rushed to the scene to extinguish and control the fires before spreading to nearby houses.

Security alert and temporary curfew

Following the outbreak of the clashes, the Internal Security Forces imposed a heavy deployment and reinforced their presence with a number of military vehicles and traffic vehicles that worked to block the entrances to the Al-Maysar neighborhood and open the roads to ambulances. According to local residents, security temporarily banned roaming the streets of the neighborhood until the situation was fully controlled.

The security forces were able to end the tension and restore calm and stability to the area, and carried out a campaign of arrests against a number of those involved in these clashes with the aim of referring them to the judiciary, Mohammed al-Saeed said.

Frequent accidents in the eastern neighborhoods

Residents of Aleppo's neighbourhoods, especially the eastern ones, suffer from sporadic security incidents caused by weapons spread among civilians. On June 22, the neighboring neighborhood of Al-Marjah (specifically on the Assan road) witnessed similar armed tension between two families in which firearms and grenades were used, before Internal Security intervened to impose a wide cordon and arrest those involved.

The same Al-Maysar neighborhood also recorded a serious incident on August 18, 2025, when a person detonated a hand grenade he was carrying near the "Al-Wahda" oven as a result of disputes with his ex-wife's family, which caused a huge explosion and a state of panic among citizens waiting to buy bread, without any civilian casualties at the time.

Despite these sporadic security breaches, local reports and monitoring of residents indicate that there has been a marked improvement in the general security situation in Aleppo city over the past months, as a result of the intensification of patrols and the creation of new security units specialized in monitoring the city, such as the "U1 unit" to control encroachments.
