Al-Hilali: The investigation of the mass graves discovered in the southern countryside of Al-Hasakah will be handled by the Ministry of Justice

The spokesman for the presidential delegation in charge of following up on the implementation of the  January 29  agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF Ahmed al-Hilali confirmed that the Ministry of Justice will begin conducting the necessary investigations in coordination with the authorities concerned with mass graves, which were revealed by the recent floods in the Al-Shaddadi area in the south of Al-Hasakah province, and it was found that they include dozens of trenches containing hundreds of unidentified bodies.

He explained in a statement that the procedures will include documenting the bodies, taking samples, and numbering them according to the rules, in preparation for trying to identify identities despite the great complexities associated with this file, adding that so far there are no accurate figures or confirmed information about the number of victims or their identities, which increases the size of the humanitarian tragedy.

He confirmed that the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management carried out the initial inspection of the mass grave sites, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior (Internal Security Command) and specialized teams, including forensic medicine, the Recognition Commission and the National Commission for Missing Persons.

Al-Hilali warned against carrying out any unauthorized excavation or excavation work at these sites.

He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that this file will be closely followed up by the presidential team.

Al-Hilali hoped that the sacrifices of Syrians, no matter how great, would be a bridge to a more just and secure future for our country.

It is noteworthy that the residents of the Al-Shaddadi area in the southern countryside of Al-Hasakah discovered a mass grave a few days ago, from which torrents and heavy rains removed the dust, and which contains many bodies.
