Al-Hasakah prepares for the 2026 wheat season. Plan to receive the whole crop

Special – Syrian News

In response to the directives of the Ministry of Economy and Industry on the need to prepare early for the harvest season, Al-Hasakah province has begun intensive preparations to receive the wheat crop for 2026.

These measures come amid expectations of a "herald" season that ends the years of drought, as efforts have focused on rehabilitating storage silos and equipping purchasing centers to ensure the smooth receipt of the crop.

Comprehensive rehabilitation of biosilos

The director of the Syrian Grain Corporation's branch in Hasakah, Abdul Hamid Daoud, said in an exclusive statement to "Syrian News" that the corporation has started the rehabilitation of a number of strategic silos, foremost of which are silos (Tal Alu, Tal Hamis, and Sabah Al-Khair). These works aim to raise the technical, mechanical and electrical readiness of the operational systems before the start of the season.

Daoud explained that the plan also includes the preparation of official procurement centers, most notably the "Germaz" and "Livestock" centers in the countryside of Qamishli, in addition to the opening of 5 centers in the Ras al-Ain area, and the activation of all prefabricated centers in the southern region, while securing the ground domes and the necessary storage spaces. He revealed that the corporation is working to secure a total storage capacity of more than one million tons nationwide.

"Secret Sampling" System and Farmer Facilities

With regard to the mechanism of dealing with farmers, Daoud confirmed the provision of a number of facilities, including:

Securing burlap bags at a price of 714 pounds per bag, while allowing farmers to secure them from the private sector if this is not possible, provided that their value is compensated within the purchase invoice.

Ensure fairness by adopting a "secret sample" system to determine the quality and price of wheat, ensuring full transparency and farmers' rights.

Absorb the entire production by committing to purchase the full quantities supplied within a period of three months.

Regarding the pricing, Daoud pointed out that the Production Estimation Committee will meet soon to approve "rewarding and appropriate" prices for farmers, in order to support the stability of food security,  stressing that these preparations come to ensure the receipt of the largest possible amount of wheat production, and to support farmers in light of the strategic importance of wheat.

Field tours and government directives

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Eng. Maher Khalil Al-Hassan, recently inspected  the situation of storage facilities in the governorate, including the "Sabah Al-Khair" silo and the "Al-Milbiya" silo, and  the maintenance and rehabilitation works that have recently begun were evaluated.

He also stressed the need to prepare a comprehensive study for all silos and silos that have been out of service for many years, so that they can be rehabilitated and put into service as soon as possible, pointing out the need to hand over the sites to be ready to work at full capacity before the start of harvest, with the preparation of a comprehensive study to rehabilitate silos that have been suspended for years.

Al-Hassan stressed that these steps aim to overcome all obstacles for farmers and strengthen the state's strategic stocks.

Al-Hassan stressed the need to provide all possibilities to ensure the receipt of the crop from farmers easily and easily, in a way that contributes to supporting the agricultural sector and enhancing food security, calling on the cadres of the Syrian Grains Foundation to work at full capacity to secure the receipt of this year's wheat crop under the best conditions, while providing all the necessary facilities and ensuring the rights of farmers.

Season Indicators by Numbers

It is noteworthy that the area cultivated with wheat in Al-Hasakah this year amounted to about 463 thousand hectares (irrigated and baal), and preliminary estimates indicate that the marketed production can reach 250 thousand tons, which reinforces hopes for an exceptional season that supports the national economy.
