Al-Hasakah: "Blind" Initiative to Bring Joy to the Visually Impaired

Syrian News - Northeast Syria

The Syrian Medical Association in Al-Hasakah, in cooperation and coordination with the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Blind and Al-Siraj Al-Munir Association, is organizing the "Blind" initiative.

Dr. Samar Al-Souma'i, Chair of the Association's Board of Directors, told Syrian News that the initiative included distributing cash to each blind person, in addition to a food basket and a piece of clothing for the mother. She explained that the initiative targeted 30 individuals with visual impairments, including families with more than one blind member. This was done to bring joy to their hearts during the holy month of Ramadan, which will enhance their self-confidence, support their social integration, and stimulate their educational and psychological abilities. These initiatives alleviate psychological burdens and increase the enthusiasm of the visually impaired to interact with their surrounding environment, thus developing their personal skills and independent lives.

Al-Souma'i said that the aim of this initiative is to help alleviate the psychological and social pressures on visually impaired individuals and their families, in addition to utilizing and developing their other senses such as hearing, touch, and taste, and strengthening their sense of being an integral part of society, thus reducing isolation.

She explained that these initiatives provide an opportunity to integrate visually impaired individuals into society on the one hand, and to change societal perceptions of them on the other
