Against the backdrop of the riots. Wholesale penalties affect Alkarama Basketball Club

On Thursday, the Syrian Arab Basketball Federation issued a number of severe disciplinary and financial penalties against Al-Karama Club, against the background of the unfortunate events and serious violations witnessed in its match against Homs Al-Fida Club in basketball, where the decisions included banning the club's fans from attending the matches until the end of the current season, and imposing financial fines amounting to millions of Syrian pounds.

The Federation based its decisions on the reports of the match observer and referees and the video recordings of the match held on 2 Jaziran 2026, which proved serious violations that included assaulting the referees and the visiting team, throwing projectiles, and going down to the ballroom, as well as the home club's failure in its obligations to protect the sports mission.

Pursuant to the legal articles of the violations of the fans and clubs in the disciplinary regulations, the federation approved the fixation of Al-Karama's loss technically by a score of 67 to 44, and the banning of its fans from league and cup matches and any official competition until the end of the season, while fining the club a total amount of 78 million Syrian pounds, and obliging it to bear the full costs of repairing the damages to the hall.

The match between Al-Karama and Homs Al-Fida was stopped as part of the Syrian Basketball League competitions before its end, last Tuesday, June 2, following riots in the stands of Ghazwan Abu Zeid Hall in the city of Homs.

Circulating video clips showed a number of fans throwing water canisters and fireworks towards the stadium floor, and the stands witnessed a state of chaos and stampede, prompting international referee Wissam Al-Zein to stop the match to preserve the safety of the players and fans.

The events coincided with the interruption of the satellite broadcast of the confrontation, at a time when the organizers and security forces intervened to contain the situation and evacuate the hall.

Ultras Links Requirements and Activity Suspension Procedures

The federation also imposed strict requirements on the "Ultras" groups and the fan associations organized by Alkarama, prohibiting their attendance in the next season until an official approved list of the names of their members was submitted and the legal responsibility for them was determined, with the prohibition of raising any "tifo" or slogan without prior written consent.

The decision also banned all people who were caught in the videos committing acts of vandalism, or who practiced inflammatory activity on social networks, from entering the halls for a full calendar year, stressing that the presence of any name of the deprived inside the hall will mean that Al-Karama will be considered the loser of its match with an inevitable score of 20 to zero.

The decision linked the continued participation of Al-Karama Club in the ongoing official competitions to the payment of the full financial fines incurred by it, stressing that any failure to play matches as a result of non-payment will mean a loss as a referee, and stressed that incomplete compliance or an attempt to circumvent penalties will be treated as an "outright withdrawal" that will result in the club being relegated to the second division directly without the need for an additional decision from the Federation.

Official Investigation and Prosecution Committee

The Basketball Federation also decided to open an extensive official investigation and form a special investigative committee to verify the news and information that the riots at the Al-Karama and Homs al-Redemption meeting may have been "contrived" or were planned and instigated in advance by specific parties.

In a related context, the Union took an advanced legal step by providing the competent security authorities with all video recordings, videos, and surveillance camera images documenting the identities of those involved, with the aim of referring them to the judiciary and taking the necessary legal and judicial measures against them under the laws and regulations in force in Syria on charges of sabotage, deliberate assault and breach of public security.

The Game Federation has tasked the Secretary General to officially communicate this decision to the management of Al-Karama Club and all concerned parties to be considered effective immediately upon its issuance.
