The Syrian Petroleum Company (SAPC) announced the receipt of a new shipment of gas aboard the GAS SERENITY with a tonnage of 11,600 metric tons, as part of a continuous supply program aimed at enhancing the stability of supplies through the Banias watershed.

The company said in a statement published on its official identifiers that "the offshore downstream teams started the linkage and unloading operations immediately after the completion of the technical procedures to ensure the efficient and safe transfer of quantities to the tanks of the Banias Gas Department."

SYRIAN PETROLEUM  REVEALED  THAT SEVERAL ADDITIONAL TANKERS ARE WAITING FOR THEIR ROLE IN UNLOADING IN THE COMING DAYS, NAMELY GAS HELENA WITH A LOAD OF 2,031 METRIC TONS, MARKO MARULIC WITH A LOAD OF 3,980 METRIC TONS, AND GAS MILANO WITH A LOAD OF 2,671 MT.

The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring the flow of supplies and the stability of the energy sector, noting that supply operations are continuing according to a plan aimed at supporting operations and meeting local needs.

Breakthrough in the domestic gas crisis

During the past weeks, the Syrian markets have witnessed a remarkable breakthrough in the domestic gas crisis, which previously caused a large congestion in front of distribution centers and delays in the delivery of domestic gas cylinders, due to the  arrival of several shipments of liquefied gas through the Banias offshore estuary, which contributed to raising the operational stockpile and easing the pressure on the distribution system.

According to sources in the energy sector, the successive unloading operations of the tankers contributed to enhancing the downstream ability to meet local demand, especially with the readiness of the marine piers and interconnection systems that allowed the uninterrupted uninterrupted unloading operations.

Syria's gas needs

According to data from early 2026, the total demand for domestic gas (LPG) exceeds 1,700 tonnes per day while domestic production covers only about 300 tonnes, imposing a large gap that is being compensated for through imports. The deficit – estimated at 700 tonnes per day – is secured by gas shipments that arrive successively at the Baniyas oil field, where they are unloaded and transported to operational tanks to ensure continuous supplies.

Crude natural gas in Syria is used in a wide range of vital sectors, with the largest share going to the Ministry of Electricity, which relies mainly on it to operate generating stations, while industrial facilities benefit from 6% to operate production lines, while 15% is allocated  to the production of domestic gas destined for daily use in homes.

This distribution reflects the pressure on the energy system, as the three sectors compete for limited quantities of local production, making imports an ongoing necessity to maintain a minimum of operational stability.
