A soldier was killed and 12 were injured in a car  bomb explosion in Bab Sharqi in Damascus

A car bomb exploded near a building belonging to the Ministry of Defense in the Bab Sharqi area of Damascus, killing a soldier and wounding several people, including civilians who happened to be in the area during the explosion.

The Ministry of Defense's Information and Communication Department said in a statement today: "A Syrian Arab Army group discovered an explosive device intended to be detonated near one of the buildings of the Ministry of Defense in the Bab Sharqi area of Damascus."

The department explained that the device was dealt with immediately and tried to dismantle it, before a car bomb exploded in the same area, killing one soldier and injuring others to varying degrees.

Health: 12 people injured in the scene

In this context, the Director of Ambulance and Emergency at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Najib Al-Naasan, announced that the explosion of the car led to  the injury of 12 people, as the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals to receive treatment and provide the necessary health measures to the injured.

The Ministry of Emergency Management announced that civil defence teams responded to the explosion that occurred near a building belonging to the Ministry of Defence in the Bab Sharqi area with maximum speed.

The ministry said in a statement that the teams treated a number of injured people, secured the site, removed the effects of the explosion and facilitated traffic in the area.
