A few days after Trump's visit, Putin holds strategic talks in China

During a summit meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for advancing the all-round development and renaissance of both China and Russia by consolidating a higher-quality joint strategic coordination between Beijing and Moscow.
In a statement, the Chinese presidency noted that during an extensive session of talks he held with his Russian counterpart at the Great Hall of the People in the capital, Beijing, President Xi discussed bilateral relations and resetting the priorities of international partnership under the current circumstances.
Chinese President: Beijing-Moscow relations are strategic advanced
During the talks, Xi noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Strategic Coordination Partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the historic Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the two countries in 2001.
Bilateral relations have reached this advanced stage step by step, as a result of the two governments continuing to deepen political mutual trust and security coordination with unrelenting determination, expand the horizons of economic cooperation, in parallel with defending the principles of justice and integrity at the international level, and the two countries' unwavering determination to build a community with a shared future for mankind, Xi said.
Confronting Hegemony and Developing Global Governance
In his speech at the summit, the Chinese president stressed that the current international situation is witnessing severe upheavals and turmoil affected by the resurgence of "unilateralism and hegemony" tendencies, while stressing that the hopes for peace, development and cooperation continue to represent the true aspirations of peoples and the general trend of the current era.
Given the status of China and Russia as permanent members of the UN Security Council and two major countries in the world, the two sides should adopt a long-term strategic perspective to advance domestic renaissance through comprehensive coordination and joint action to make the global governance system more just and rational, the Chinese president said.
Putin: Beijing-Moscow cooperation is the most important factor in international stability
For his part, Putin said during the summit: "Our foreign policy cooperation is one of the most important factors of stability in international relations, and in light of the current tense situation on the world stage, the close interdependence between our two countries is particularly required."
The Russian president noted that "a complex process is underway to build a multipolar world based on the balance of the interests of all its parties," adding that "together with our Chinese friends, we defend cultural and civilizational diversity, respect the sovereign development of countries, and strive to build a more just and democratic world order."
"We are working to strengthen coordination at the platforms of the United Nations, the BRICS, the G20, and other forums and will continue to interact effectively within the framework of the SCO," Putin added, which he described as "a great example of how to solve problems fairly and promote integration in a wide common geographical area."
President Putin paid a state visit to China last night, a few days after the conclusion of US President Donald Trump's visit to Beijing, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighborliness between Moscow and Beijing.
The Kremlin's Messages and the Dimensions of Strategic Coordination
In a video speech broadcast by China's official Xinhua news agency ahead of his arrival, President Putin described bilateral relations as reaching an unprecedented level in their history, stressing that the interaction between Russia and China is a key deterrent and stabilization factor in international relations.
Putin welcomed the constructive dialogue between Beijing and Washington as a contributing factor to the stability of the global economy.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian-Chinese summit talks will allow Moscow to get direct updates and exchange views with the Chinese side on the content of its recent talks with the US administration.
In a statement published by Xinhua, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the two sides will seize the summit to inject more stability and positive energy into the international arena, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic coordination partnership between them.

China's diplomatic balance between Washington and Moscow
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov denied that there is any link or time link between Trump's visit and Putin's current visit, explaining that the agenda of the Russia-China summit was agreed in advance during a closed video call between the two presidents last February.
Wang Zizhen, deputy secretary-general of the Center for China and Globalization, said Chinese diplomacy seeks to manage two non-contradictory paths.
Zechen explained that Trump's visit was aimed at stabilizing China-US relations, while Putin's visit is aimed at reassuring the longtime strategic ally and maintaining diplomatic space that shows Beijing as an unaligned major power.
Energy and technology are the backbone of economic partnership
Economically, Chinese economic reports issued in conjunction with Putin's visit to China confirmed the growth of the trade partnership between the two countries since the outbreak of the Ukraine war in 2022, as Beijing turned into Moscow's number one trading partner and the largest buyer of Russian oil and gas.
Russian President Yuri Ushakov revealed that Russian oil exports to China increased by 35% during the first quarter of 2026, pointing out that Russia affirms its commitment to the role of a reliable energy supplier, especially in light of the current Middle East crises.
In his recent remarks, President Putin stressed that the main issues related to gas and oil projects have become the subject of full agreement between the two governments, in conjunction with Beijing continuing to provide the Russian industrial sector with advanced technological components bypassing Western pressures and warnings.
