The President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport Omar Hossariya announced that Syrian airports and airspace are witnessing the gradual return of a number of regional and international airlines, within the framework of the recovery of the civil aviation sector and the enhancement of air connectivity and air crossing.

Al-Hosary said in a tweet on the X platform: As of May 1, the number of airlines that have resumed operations to and from Damascus and Aleppo international airports has reached (12 companies), in parallel with a marked improvement in transit traffic through Syrian airspace, which reflects the development of the level of operation and the increase in reliance on Syrian air routes.

Al-Hosari pointed out that the following companies have resumed their flights to Damascus Airport: Syrian Airlines, flydubai, FlySham, Royal Jordanian, Dan Air, Air Arabia, Flynas, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Jazeera Airways, andAJet.

He also pointed out that the companies that resumed flights to Aleppo International Airport are: Syrian Airlines, FlySham, Royal Jordanian, Dan Airlines, Turkish Airlines, andAJet.

He added: "This comes as a result of continuous work to raise operational readiness, strengthen the air navigation system, and apply the approved safety standards, in order to support the stability and expansion of air operations during the next phase."

"The focus is currently on resuming operations to and from Europe, where we are working directly with international aviation safety organizations to re-evaluate Syrian airports, in preparation for the return of this vital route within the highest standards of safety and compliance," he said.

International Airlines

The head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar al-Hosari, recently announced that the transit of planes to Europe through Syrian airspace is witnessing a significant increase by international airlines, according to the latest operating indicators.

In a post on the "X" platform, Al-Hosari explained that this development came as a result of continuous efforts to enhance technical readiness and apply safety standards in accordance with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

He pointed out that Syria is gradually reconnecting itself to the global aviation network, despite the continuation of some precautionary classifications imposed on its airspace, pointing out that improving the levels of operational efficiency would make Syrian airspace a permanent corridor for international air traffic.

The Chairman stressed that work is ongoing to align international assessments with operational reality, with the aim of enhancing air safety and providing a more reliable environment for air traffic.

Resumption of work at Damascus airport

On April  8, the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation announced the reopening of all previously closed air corridors, in addition to the resumption of work at Damascus International Airport and the return of regular air traffic.

The Authority explained that the decision came based on continuous technical assessments conducted by a specialized risk management committee affiliated with it, which concluded that Syrian airspace is ready to resume air traffic in accordance with the approved standards.

In a statement published on Facebook, the Civil Aviation Authority indicated that the resumption of operation includes receiving and taking off flights according to the specified schedules, while ensuring compliance with the highest air safety standards.
