A qualitative operation in "Al-Safira".. dismantling an ISIS cell east of Aleppo

In a security operation described as "qualitative", the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a cell affiliated with the terrorist organization "ISIS" in the area of Al-Safira in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.

This operation came as a result of joint coordination between the ministry's agencies and the General Intelligence Service to end the activity of a cell that threatened the security of the region and its citizens.

The ministry  said in a statement today that this operation is a continuation of the efforts to pursue the perpetrators of the terrorist attack that took place last month, which targeted members of the Ministry of Defense and the customs police, which led to the death of a number of martyrs.

The security follow-up began immediately after the incident in which one of the attackers was killed and others fled, and careful investigations resulted in monitoring the movements of the cell and determining its exact location.

Details of the raid and identities of those arrested

The Ministry of Interior indicated that the security operation ended with the arrest of all the members of the cell, namely Mahmoud al-Abdullah and Jumaa al-Ahmad.

According to preliminary investigations, the two arrested persons confessed to their involvement in a series of previous attacks that were not limited to military and security targets, but also targeted civilians through assassinations and liquidations. The operation also resulted in the seizure and confiscation of quantities of weapons, ammunition and combat equipment in their possession.

The Interior Ministry explained that preliminary investigations showed the involvement of the cell members in carrying out a series of previous attacks, including assassinations and targeting of security and military elements, in addition to murders of civilians, noting that quantities of weapons, ammunition and combat equipment that were used in the implementation of these plans were seized and confiscated in accordance with legal procedures.

The ministry stressed its continued efforts to pursue terrorist organizations, dismantle their networks, and take all necessary measures to protect citizens and enhance security and stability.
