The United States of America reiterated its decisive reaffirmation that there is no military solution to the bloody conflict in Sudan, stressing that the only path to ending the immense suffering of the Sudanese people is through direct negotiation and without any preconditions between the conflicting parties.

In an official statement, the US State Department said it is intensifying work with its international partners and Sudanese stakeholders to promote an urgent humanitarian truce, ensure unhindered access to relief aid, and support a path to an independent democratic civil transition that ensures the country's unity and achieves the aspirations of its people.

Diplomatic moves to contain the crisis

The US administration has expressed grave concern over reports on the ground that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies are massing massive military reinforcements around the city of Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state.

These actions significantly increase the risk of direct violence against civilians and open the door to widespread violations that could exacerbate the already worsening humanitarian crisis in the region, the statement warned, calling on the RSF to stop any actions that endanger civilians or impede relief.

As part of diplomatic efforts to break the deadlock in the crisis, Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, discussed the humanitarian situation and ways to end the conflict during a phone call with the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemedti".

For his part, Hemedti expressed his keenness to respond to international and regional efforts to establish peace, referring in particular to the Quartet's initiative aimed at overcoming obstacles to peaceful solutions.

Drone warfare cripples vital facilities

On the ground, humanitarian concerns are escalating with a remarkable shift in military tactics, with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warning of the grave risks to civilians posed by the widespread use of suicide drones by both parties to the conflict (the army and the Rapid Support Forces) to monitor sites or bomb neighborhoods and popular markets.

UN reports confirmed that drone strikes recently targeted vital facilities in the city of Al-Obeid, including electricity and fuel stations, which resulted in a complete disruption of water projects and basic medical facilities, which led to the closure of dialysis centers and hospital emergencies.

The organization also monitored similar strikes targeting vital bridges south of the um Rawaba area and sites in the city of Radhad, as well as parallel attacks in White Nile and North Darfur states that left civilians dead and wounded and severely damaged infrastructure.

On the health front, the United Nations has issued a stern warning of a rapidly worsening cholera outbreak in West Kordofan State, with more than 700 confirmed cases and nearly 60 deaths recorded so far, amid severe difficulties in accessing medical supplies and severe shortages of safe drinking water and sanitation services as a result of the systematic targeting of power and water networks.

The Cost of Sudan's War and Indicators of Destruction

These international positions come in conjunction with the entry of the Sudanese war into its fourth year since its outbreak in mid-April 2023, recording catastrophic figures that international organizations classify as one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world:

Human toll of casualties: UN estimates and reports indicate that the total death toll since the beginning of the conflict has exceeded the 200,000 mark of military and civilian deaths, who bore the brunt of the violence.

Victims of drone weapons: Drone weapons have emerged as one of the most violent tools of killing recently, with documented UN data indicating that at least 880 civilians have died as a result of drone strikes in various parts of the country between the beginning of this year 2026 and last April alone.

The scale of displacement and famine: According to the latest report by the United Nations Office of the United Nations (OCHA), military operations have displaced more than 13 million people internally and externally, making it the largest displacement crisis in the world, as well as pushing millions of Sudanese to the brink of acute famine, particularly in the regions of Darfur and Kordofan, due to severe restrictions on relief corridors and the collapse of purchasing power and agricultural productivity.
