Sudanese army destroys 141 vehicles , kills dozensof Rapid Support Forces

The Sudanese army announced on Sunday the implementation of a series of military operations in several combat axes that resulted in the destruction of 141 combat vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in addition to the death of dozens of its members since June 1.

The army said in a statement that its forces "continue to crush the hideouts of the insurgency and carry out successful qualitative operations in various axes of operations", stressing that they have inflicted heavy losses on the Rapid Support Forces in the past days.

In the Darfur axis, the statement explained that the armed forces destroyed 29 combat vehicles and a number of weapons depots, including ammunition stores, military equipment stores, and drone ammunition stores, in addition to destroying a main fuel depot, while eliminating dozens of elements.

In the Kordofan axis, the army announced the destruction of 91 combat vehicles and the elimination of dozens of fighters from the Rapid Support Forces, confirming the downing of a strategic march in White Nile state, the destruction of 21 combat vehicles in Blue Nile state, in addition to the killing of dozens of Rapid Support Forces in the area.

The army noted that the total number of vehicles destroyed since the beginning of June until today amounted to  141 combat vehicles, and  the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) did not issue any comment on these developments as of 20:30 GMT.

Since April 2023, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been fighting the Sudanese army over a dispute over the integration of the former into the military, causing famine within one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, killing tens of thousands of Sudanese and displacing about 13 million.

Peace efforts for a ceasefire

In Addis Ababa, the expanded five-party mechanism comprising the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, the European Union, and IGAD continues its consultations to advance an independent civilian-led political process, while stressing the need to form a transitional government as soon as the cessation of military operations is confirmed.

In parallel, the civilian forces that signed the Declaration of Principles for Building a New Homeland in Nairobi are proposing a three-month truce that can be renewed, subject to strict local, regional and international control to ensure a reduction in violence and create a negotiating environment between the army, the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) led by Abdulwahed Nur.

In parallel, the US-Saudi joint mediation process is witnessing additional momentum after US President Donald Trump entered the direct line of communication in coordination with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in an attempt to formulate a comprehensive peace plan that focuses in its first phase on protecting civilians and facilitating the access of medical and food supplies to some 25 million Sudanese at risk of famine, in addition to removing obstacles for UN teams working on the ground.

2026 International Peace Plan

The draft humanitarian provisions of Sudan's 2026 International Peace Plan provide for a package of mandatory measures drafted by the Five-Party Mechanism and the joint U.S.-Saudi mediation, with the aim of preventing the country from descending into widespread famine and ensuring the protection of civilians in combat zones.

The draft emphasizes the permanent opening of all vital border crossings, foremost of which is the Adri crossing with Chad and the Joudeh crossing with South Sudan, to allow the passage of UN convoys without the need for prior permits, in addition to securing internal land corridors linking the port of Port Sudan to the affected states in Kordofan, Gezira and the five states of Darfur, as well as demanding the immediate lifting of the blockade imposed on the city of El Fasher and allowing the entry of medical shipments and therapeutic food for children and shelter centers urgently.

The draft includes arrangements for distribution mechanisms, including handing over the management of food warehouses and distribution centers to neutral international and local organizations, preventing the presence of any armed elements in their vicinity, in addition to establishing a joint operations room to organize aerial drops of aid in areas completely isolated by floods or ongoing clashes.

It stipulates the neutralization of vital facilities by evacuating hospitals, health centers, power stations, and water pumping facilities from any military presence, declaring them demilitarized zones protected under international law, and establishing a field and digital committee to document violations, based on satellite imagery and citizens' reports, and reporting directly to the United Nations to investigate cases of forced detention and displacement.
