The Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) announced the rehabilitation of five oil and gas wells in the Al-Bishri field in the central region within a project that includes seven wells, relying on its national expertise and its own technical capabilities, and in line with the development plans set to raise the efficiency of the oil fields.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday, June 16: "This work comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts to enhance the operational readiness of the fields and restore their production capacities, through the implementation of the necessary rehabilitation and technical equipment operations to return the wells to service in accordance with the approved technical standards."

She pointed out that the company continues to complete the requirements of the project and secure its technical and logistical needs, in a way that contributes to raising the pace of completion and improving the efficiency of operation in oil fields and facilities.

This progress reflects the ability of national cadres to carry out quality work that supports the development of the oil sector and enhances the sustainability of its production operations, under the general supervision of the Ministry of Energy.

Supporting national cadres and accelerating development work

In this context , the CEO of the Syrian Petroleum Company, Eng. Yousef Kablawi, conducted a field visit to the wells rehabilitation project in the Al-Bishri field, during which he was briefed on the progress of the implemented works and their results, and met with the technical and engineering cadres working at the site.

During the tour, the implementation stages of the project, which includes seven wells, were reviewed, where the rehabilitation works in five wells have been completed so far, with pure national efforts and expertise, depending on the capabilities and equipment available to the company.

The CEO also discussed with the technical teams the challenges and difficulties facing the workflow and ways to address them, stressing the importance of accelerating the provision of the necessary equipment and logistics to support the rehabilitation work in the central region, including the pumps, generators and technical equipment required to ensure the continuity of work and raise operational readiness.

The CEO stressed the full commitment to occupational safety standards and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at various work sites to maintain the safety of workers and promote a safe work environment.

Eng. Qiblawi said that what has been achieved in this project confirms the ability of national cadres to accomplish quality work with high efficiency despite the challenges, and we will continue to provide all forms of technical and logistical support to the work sites and accelerate rehabilitation projects, because real investment starts with trusting our national competencies and enabling them to play their role in restoring production and developing the sector.

US company Philips prepares to explore for gas in Syria

US oil and gas company ConocoPhillips is preparing to resume its activity in Syria through a new contract to develop the gas sector, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the company is set to sign an agreement with the new Syrian government to revive gas production in a number of fields.

The newspaper reported that ConocoPhillips, along with Novatira Energy, will develop existing fields and explore new reserves, under a cooperation agreement with the state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company.

The agreement is expected to be concluded this week, based on a memorandum of understanding signed last November.

The move comes in the context of international companies expanding their studies of opportunities within the Syrian energy sector. In May, France's TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy and ConocoPhillips signed an agreement with the Syrian Petroleum Company to launch a technical review of the 3rd offshore area near Latakia, Reuters reported.

The moves are part of a government's effort to attract foreign investment to the energy sector, which has been hit hard during years of war and sanctions, as major companies have increased interest in Syrian projects since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, opening the door to a new phase of economic openness and restructuring of the energy sector.
