Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa stressed that the new Syria has turned the page of guardianship once and for all and refuses to return to any military or security role inside Lebanon, stressing that Damascus is moving today according to the logic of the state and not the logic of the axes, and that its priority is peace, stability and dialogue among the Lebanese.

This came in an exclusive interview with Lebanese journalist Tony Khalifa on Al-Mashhad TV, which dealt with the files of Syrian-Lebanese relations, Hezbollah's weapon, border demarcation, and the regional reality, in addition to Damascus's vision for the next phase and its economic and development plans.

President Al-Shara: Wrong interpretation of Trump's statements

President Al-Sharaa touched on the statements attributed to US President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of Washington relying on Syria in the file of Hezbollah's weapons, stressing that those statements were misinterpreted.

He explained that the intention is to support the path of peace and stability in Lebanon, not any Syrian military intervention, adding that Syria rejects a repeat of past experiences and seeks to encourage all Lebanese forces, including Hezbollah, to seek solutions that ensure the security and stability of the country.

Al-Sharaa said that the building of the Lebanese state still faces two main obstacles, represented in the file of "Hezbollah" weapons and the demarcation of the borders, considering that the continuation of disagreements over these two files hinders the stability of Lebanese institutions, explaining that Damascus does not see the right time to open the file of border demarcation due to the war and regional conditions.

He added that raising controversial issues now may lead to additional complications, while the focus should be on common files and areas of economic cooperation, pointing out that Lebanon has always found itself between two difficult options: civil war or confrontation with Israel, calling for the search for a "third option" that allows stability and development.

President Sharia sends a message to the Shiites in Lebanon

Speaking about the relationship with Hezbollah, President Sharia said: "I believe in dialogue and we are ready to sit with Hezbollah at the same table if it is in the interest of Lebanon," pointing out at the same time that the Syrian people still bear deep wounds as a result of the party's intervention in the Syrian war alongside the ousted regime and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

He added that the party was a partner in tragedies and crimes committed against Syrians during the years of war, but stressed at the same time that Damascus does not want these differences to become a reason to drag Lebanon into new conflicts, stressing that dialogue remains the only way to address differences and prevent the outbreak of wars.

President al-Sharaa sent a direct message to the Shiite environment in Lebanon, in which he considered that Hezbollah's decision to intervene in Syria was "very wrong," calling for a review of the previous experience and embarking on a new phase of development and reconstruction.

He stressed the need to distinguish between the Shiite community and Hezbollah, stressing that the Shiites in Lebanon are an essential component of Lebanese society, and that the interest of all Lebanese requires preserving the country's unity and stability.

In response to a question about the possibility of Damascus becoming a platform to receive Hezbollah's opponents, al-Shara stressed that Syria does not want to increase polarization inside Lebanon, adding, "Syria has paid a heavy price for wars and divisions, and it does not wish Lebanon to live the same experience," noting that the new Syrian role is based on opening channels for dialogue and strengthening cooperation, not creating axes.

Al-Sharia: We did not support the US-Iran war

Regarding the repeated talk about security agreements or a possible peace with the Israeli occupation, President Al-Sharaa stressed that real peace requires objective conditions and clear guarantees.

He considered that any agreement cannot succeed if the parties are not able to abide by its terms and implement their commitments, criticizing what he described as past violations that have disrupted the chances of calm in the region.

In his assessment of the recent agreement between Washington and Tehran, President Sharia described the war that preceded it as an "absurd war" from which no party emerged victorious, adding that Syria did not support this war and should not have happened and that the region has paid a heavy price as a result of conflicts that have not achieved its goals, welcoming the cessation of the war as a step in the interest of regional stability. The government is working on extensive reform programs

At the end of the meeting, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa stressed that economic development represents the strategic option for Syria during the next phase, noting that the government is working on broad reform programs that include the services sectors, education, banking, agricultural, industrial and commercial production.

He added that Syria is currently working to repair the effects of the war in parallel with the launch of long-term development plans , and that the new leadership will not allow any other files to divert it from this path, pointing out that Syria faced the internal challenges and secretions that emerged after the fall of the ousted regime, and was able to contain them and prevent them from turning into open crises.

At the end of the interview, Al-Sharaa addressed a message to the Lebanese, saying that Syria only wants the good for Lebanon and its people, adding: "Don't worry about you, we have enough courage, if we want to enter a war, we will say it publicly," stressing that Syria's choice is development, reconstruction and healing the wounds, not entering into new wars and conflicts.
