China's National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has officially approved the use of a new and innovative gene therapy for solid stomach tumors developed by CARsgenTherapeutics, becoming the world's first approved treatment using genetically modified T cell (CAR-T) technology to counteract the risk of solid tumors, after the technology was used exclusively for blood cancers.

The new drug, commercially known as Satri-cel, represents a long-awaited opening in the medical research environment, Reuters news agency said, citing statements made by the developer's CEO, Li Zhonghai, noting that the company's shares immediately jumped 6.8% in financial markets following the announcement of this historic regulatory approval, which is awaited by millions of patients around the world.

Scientific and field reports accompanying the medical background have shown that the T cell technology (CAR-T) has previously been successful in treating blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma, but its application to solid tumors (such as stomach and esophagus) has remained for years one of the most complex medical challenges in the world, due to the ferocity of the environment surrounding the solid tumor and the difficulty of penetrating the modified immune cells and continuing to perform their defensive function.

Field Rollout Plan and Dosing Scheduling for Patients

The Chinese company's executive management announced that the final official price of the drug "Satri-Cell" will be officially revealed in preparation for the start of the commercial production path, expecting the first patient to receive the first dose of the treatment within a period of three to four weeks from the issuance of the approval.

The company's operational data revealed that two patients are fully prepared to receive the drug as soon as it is released in hospitals, while the company's medical estimates and marketing documents are likely to receive at least 200 applications for this promising drug during the second half of this year 2026, putting medical production lines in front of the responsibility of accommodating the growing demand.

International Warnings and Statistics

Coinciding with this achievement, health experts and the World Health Organization (WHO) have warned that some common daily symptoms such as persistent heartburn or chronic GERD may be early covert indicators of esophageal and gastric tumors, which are the most difficult types in terms of early detection and field diagnosis.

Recent statistical data from the International Oncology Registry and cancer research institutions showed that the cases of diagnosis of late-stage esophageal tumors recorded a frightening record jump of 46%, reflecting the poor recognition of the disease in its early stages and reducing the traditional treatment options available to save those affected.
